Designer Marte Brauter has always had an interest in interiors and was keen to design her own furniture. Originally from Norway, Marte moved to London 10 years’ ago, but has retained the Scandinavian love for wood, stone and natural simplicity. She is influenced by mid-century furniture design and the Scandinavian Design movement of the 1950s that had values of affordability, functionality and modernism at its core.

Using these influences, she dreamed up a small table – simple and beautiful – that is ideal for use as a side table.

Marte initially intended to use marble for the table tops, but came across terrazzo and fell in love with the product. With marble chips encased in a cement base and polished to a high gloss, terrazzo still has a natural feel, but offers a more contemporary finish.

Marte’s first tables were made using Diespeker’s standard terrazzo TE007, with the table top cut and polished at the London factory. The tables immediately garnered a positive response with the initial order selling well. Marte is now working with a pink standard terrazzo as well as two marble tops; white Carrara marble and a dark green marble.

As well as functioning as a side table, they also make perfect plant stands – a real talking point in homes of style.
